The goal of creating the Cayce River Arts District was to convert an older, industrial area of Cayce into an iconic destination that celebrates the arts and attracts residents, businesses, and out-of-town visitors.

Public Works of HeART, our public art planning, design, and management sister company, was contracted to help create the new arts district from the ground up including consulting on the overall process, budget, and timelines, proposing project opportunities and overseeing the design and installation of each project.

The brand identity for the new arts district needed to reflect its location in a historical area of Cayce with industrial roots. The new Cayce River Arts District logo is a badge that features the typeface DDC Hardware designed by graphic designer Aaron Draplin and type designer Riley Cran. The typeface was created as an homage to vintage hand-painted signage commonly used on midcentury industrial buildings. The historical and industrial roots of this typeface made it a perfect fit for the Cayce River Arts District logo. Although the base colors of black, cream, orange, blue, red, and violet are colorful, the hues are muted to give the color scheme an aged feel. The “E” in “RIVER” is dropped in the logo to create visual balance in the lettering, while also embracing the creative license art gives one to bend the rules.

“Will's knowledge and adaptability is impressive. He guided us really well throughout the creation of our new Cayce River Arts District. We haven’t made any missteps because of Will's guidance.”
